Jail officer charged with mistreating prisoners

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) – A Cascade County detention officer has been charged with two felony counts of mistreating prisoners.

Officer Jason Carroll was arrested Friday and placed on administrative leave. He appeared in Justice Court Monday and remained free after posting $10,000 bail.

One complaint alleges that on Sept. 7, Carroll refused to allow an inmate to administer his own blood glucose test and subsequently injured the inmate with a lancet.

The second complaint alleges Carroll used a stun gun on an inmate without provocation on Oct. 1.

The inmates filed complaints and the charges were filed after an internal investigation.
