Lee County correctional officer arrested for burglary

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Authorities say a Lee County correctional officer who was found at car dealership with burglary tools has been arrested.

William J. Edwards is facing charges of burglary of a structure, possession of burglary tools with intent to use and petty theft.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, officers from the Fort Myers Police Department found Edwards and another man at the dealership early Sunday morning. The other man, whose name wasn’t released, was arrested on the same charges as Edwards.

Edwards has been placed on administrative leave from the sheriff’s office, where he has worked since Oct. 23, 2007.
